Scans showed no serious injury but England are worried he may not recover in time for the Test on 15 November.
England press officer Rhian Evans said Finn will be monitored to determine a "rehabilitation" programme.
England face Mumbai A in a three-day game from Saturday, then a four-day game against Haryana before the first Test in Ahmedabad in just over two weeks' time.
Finn is competing for fast bowling spots with James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Graham Onions and Tim Bresnan.
The Middlesex man made his debut at Lord's against Bangladesh in May 2010 and has played 15 Tests, with an average of 29.46 and best figures of 6-125.
